Our super new English and Music teacher, Miss McAvoy, joined us at the start of the year from England.
Freya wanted to ask her a few questions about the difference between English schools and IMS.
Freya:
What are the differences between this school and your old school?
Miss McAvoy:
My school was not Montessori, and it was an English-speaking school only. In my class there were thirty children and we did learning like you, but none of the fun Montessori stuff.
Freya:
How did you find the teachers in your school β and if you were a kid, the teachers of this school?
Miss McAvoy:
I was in a big school in England and I had a lot of teachers with me. In this school there are a lot less, but both schools are very lovely and everyone is very good at their job.
Freya:
So both schools are very nice.
Miss McAvoy:
Yes, both very good.
Freya:
How were the kids of your class compared to the kids of these classes?
Miss McAvoy:
Well the kids of my class were only 7 years old so they were very small and there were 30 of them. So there were a lot of them and they were loud. You guys are older and you speak both languages amazingly and you are very calm and sensible.
Freya:
Maybe some times we are a little loud though.
Miss McAvoy:
Maybe a little loud, but itβs okay.
Freya:
How was the food in your school and this school?
Miss McAvoy:
My last school did not give us food, we had to bring our own, so itβs nice that we get food in this school. I like some of it and some not.

Just a reminder that Prime Youth, our super duo of sports experts, are running a special 5-day sports/English camp during the Herbstferien holiday.
IMS kids are already familiar with the fantastic activities provided by Shane and Felipe during sports lessons and AGs.
So, parents: if you’re looking for an opportunity for your kids to have fun while learning English, registration for the course is taking place now.
We’re very proud of our current student newspaper, but it isn’t the first time the school has had one.
It turns out that Mila, one of our team of Hort helpers, was once a student at IMS. What’s more, she told us that she was also a member of the Newspaper AG during her time at the school.
Mila still has some copies of the IMS newspaper from 2012 and 2013, which she kindly brought to school for us to look at.
As you can see, it was a fantastic publication, including stories, reviews, comics and even songs. (By the way, one of Mila’s articles was all about chewing gum. Can you see it here?).
Back then, the IMS newspaper was printed on paper. For us, it’s easier and more efficient to publish our newspaper online, but one day we will probably try to create a paper version as well, just to find out exactly what is involved.
Perhaps one of the most interesting pieces of news was from June 2013, when the newspaper announced that the school was going to move to a new location in Wannsee.
That was quite a long time ago, but luckily we are still here, in our beautiful building just a short walk from the lake. β€οΈ
A cool cartoon from a great artist, Noga. Don’t you love the dog’s eyes in picture three?!
There are many fantastic artists in 4-6, so if you would like to contribute a cartoon, joke or comic, get in touch with a newspaper team member or Mr Mike Brennan.
We will feature them all in our special cartoons section.
The idea for our art class? To use the simplest of artists’ materials – paper – to create as many different shapes, textures and forms as possible on a plain sheet of cardboard.
As you can see, the students created some wonderful, intricate work, which perfectly showcased their manual skills and inventiveness.
We’ll publish more examples of students’ art throughout the year so that everyone can enjoy it – and don’t forget to check out our Spotlight section, where we feature lots of other great work and ideas from the kids at IMS!
If you have any questions or need advice, check out our special section, ‘Ask Juno’!
On the 20 of September until the 24 of September, the classes Aquamarin and Turmalin are going on a class trip to Bremsdorfer MΓΌhle. We are leaving by bus at 09:00am, and will drive for 1h and 30min.
On the class trip we will sleep with 4 friends in bunk beds, and have a toilet in every room. We have a lot of activities in mind, like a night walk, a disco, build a fire and eating marshmallows, walking in the forest, going to a pool and much more!
We all canβt wait to go and spend time with friends!! It will be so much fun!

1985 was the earthquake in Mexico City. It was the worst earthquake in Mexico City and millions of people died in the houses and they couldn’t get out because they were stuck in the stones and things from the houses. Lots of people weren’t found because they were lost.
Many people helped to take out people of the stones and the things that were in the houses. They took many years to rebuild the city. Many of the people were in hospitals in Mexico City.

This is our school. This is where we learn and play.
In this school instead of learning at a desk we can learn on a rug or on the carpet.
